Westcomb Specter LT Hooded Jacket – Men’s Review

I would like to give this jacket a better rating than I am. It is smart looking, breathable, and great rain protection. Unfortunately, it has a few issues that make it the wrong jacket for me. It may well work for you.

1. Its too short. I carry my wallet and iPhone in my front pants pockets, and in a heavy downpour, this jacket is simply not long enough to provide any protection for the front of my pants. If you wear rain pants as well, fine – but not good enough with jeans.

2. I miss pit zips. Westcomb has made every attempt to make this jacket as light as possible, but I would have accepted a couple of extra ounces weight to have pit zips. When it is windy and warm, I want extra ventilation, but I don’t want to open up the jacket completely, and have it flap around in the wind. While eVent is exceptionally breathable, I still like to have the option of opening up the shell. I know that a lot of people dismiss pit zips – but they work well for me, and I want them on my rain jacket.

3. When I walk fast, the zipper pulls (especially on the chest pockets) whirl around like a stripper’s pasties. This was not obvious in the store, but I immediately noticed in when I started walking. I purchased the Avatar Blue with the yellow zipper pulls, and the unwanted motion in this combination is particularly obvious. That’s a pity as that color combination is very smart looking otherwise.

Bottom line, I really wanted to like this jacket, but I returned it and bought an Outdoors Research Foray jacket instead (which I love).

The Onion Radio News has been the most highly regarded broadcast news source in the world since visionary Onion publisher T.Herman Zweibel made the bold move in 1922 to shut down the popular Onion Telegraph News and focus on the then embryonic medium of radio. From day one Zweibel intended to employ this new technology for the public good, and for the first two years he devoted much of his airtime to denouncing silent film actress Louise Brooks.

Overnight, Zweibel’s vitriolic attacks gained sufficient listenership to attract wealthy sponsors like Campbell’s Liquid Beef and Spotto potato detergent. The financial success of the Onion Radio News led Zweibel to hire professional “pronouncers,” as they were called then, who were charged with the important task of reading items from the printed version of The Onion to fill time between Zweibel’s marathon anti-flapper rants.

In 1947, a polyp the size of a Concord grape on Zweibel’s vocal cords forced him to stop his nightly rants, allowing the Onion Radio News to finally become one of the first 24-hour news outlets.

Today the Onion Radio News, anchored by Doyle Redland, continues to inspire and inform millions of listeners around the world and has become the living embodiment of the power of the spoken news word.
