Burgert Brothers of Ybor City

by admin ·

The German Burgert Brothers were early Florida photographers. It is our understanding that they had some 80,000 photo negatives in archive, of which 40,000 survived and made it to University of South Florida’s photo archives. http://guides.lib.usf.edu/content.php?pid=86148&sid=640824&doi=B29-00031141#doi=B29-00031141

Many early Tampa and Ybor photos are credited to these fantastic brothers.  The photo below was taken in 1917 in Ybor city at their old studio.

Classy Lady Hall of Fame

by admin ·

Miss Classy Lady Hall of Fame:
Afro-Squad’s freedom council,
Red Ninja, Jim Bucko, and Ben Autobot recently met to decide who should be apart of the Afro-Squad Hall of Fame.  All of these entrees were voluntarily featured on this page anywhere between 1997 and today.  We feel that these entrees helped make this page great.

Anna MalAnna was one of the hottest babes in early Afro-Squad history.  She received hundreds of votes to become Miss Classy Lady, and she was also a regular participant in our monthly pimp parties.  For all of her participation at Afro-Squad, Anna is one of our first inductees in the Classy Lady Hall of Fame!

Ayme Jo Wood joined our Miss Classy Lady page when she was only seventeen.  She and her mom were big time supporters of the site, and she did all that she could to promote our site.  Ayme moved on to bigger and better things, and we’d like to honor her with this induction into the Classy Lady Hall of Fame.

Brianna LaneBrianna Lane was one of the first adult models to appear on our non-nude site.  She had a huge following among Afro-Squad fans, and she received hundreds of votes for Miss Classy Lady.  Congrats Brianna on your induction to our Hall of Fame.

Julie Ann Gerhard

Julie Ann Gerhard no longer offers her free website to the net, but in its heyday juliemodel.com was one of the most popular websites around.  She recently posed for American Curves Magazine, and she was one of the first girls featured in our American Girls Gallery.

Darion Michaels, JessicaDarion was one of the first winners of the Miss Classy Lady monthly award, she signed our guestbooks, and she took fan pictures for us… there is no doubt that she deserves a place in the Miss Classy Lady Hall of Fame!  Current rumors tell us she is a mother in Indiana, and other fans have spotted her working at Hooters.

Bobbi BillardBobbi Billard was one of our first big name models to appear on this site.  She was also one of the first truly top heavy girls to be featured on this page.  At a time where Afro-Squad was just a small unknown site, she jumped on board and made us what we are today.  That deserves a spot in the Afro-Squad Classy Lady Hall of Fame.

Cindy PucciCindy was one the first professional models to appear on Afro-Squad.  Although we had scores of beautiful amateur babes, Cindy was the one big fish in a little pond.  Over the course of 3 years on our site, she collected over 3,000 votes in our Miss Classy Lady contest.  That’s a lot of votes!

Cami has been involved with this website for almost six years.  She is one of the most attractive and multi talented girls we have ever met.   She’s done interviews, sent fan pics, and signed our guestbook.  Thanks for being there for us Cami.  You are a great addition to our Hall of Fame.

Cindy James

Cindy did an interview with us and she was a regular in signing our guestbook.  She also got a ton of votes for Miss Classy Lady.  The bottom line is that we just liked Cindy, so we selected her for the Hall of Fame.  Now can you dig that, sucka?

Oasis Interview (Star)

by admin ·

Afro-Squad’s Classy Lady
Amateur Web Goddess, Oasis
Oasis Amateur

Oasis, how are you doing tonight?
Today’s the day after Christmas and we had a full day yesterday. I’m recovering :) Sitting on the couch with the laptop, answering some email and watching my Patriots on Monday Night Football.

So where do you live now-a-days?
We’re in Lake Havasu City, Arizona. We spend most of our time here, with trips once a month or so out to Las Vegas, Phoenix or Southern California. We usually also take a couple big trips a year – in the winter to New Orleans for Mardi Gras, and in the summer we try to alternate and
visit new places. This summer we’re going to try to do a big trip up the east coast from Miami to Boston.

Can you describe and average work day to us? When do you get up, what do you do in your spare time, how do you prepare for work?
I think my average day is actually pretty mundane. I don’t have a regular job, which is pretty nice, so my schedule is pretty flexible but I do try to stick to a regular schedule just to make sure I get some work done. I usually get up about 8:00 and take my dog for a three mile walk. Then, as I eat breakfast I go through the email that’d come through overnight. I’ll usually spend about an hour answering the most pressing emails. Depending on the day, I’ll edit pictures for an update to my main website, cum2oasis.com, or for one of our other sites (we also run a strickly party site, realorgyparties, a stricktly interracial site, oasiswentblack, and a couple sites for friends of ours like kinkykacey.com). I try to get an update on one of our sites every day, and my main site at least three times a week.

Do you follow the news at all? If so, what do you think about our troops overseas?
I go through phases. Right now, I’m off the news (I decided I was spending way too much time reading cnn.com in the mornings). I most definitely support our troops – I have a couple good friends in Iraq right now and my brother was in the military for a good number of years (he was over for the
first war). I don’t particularly support the war, and I don’t care much for Bush…

Is there anything you would like to say to those troops?
Just to be careful and come back safe. Hopefully sooner rather than later.

We recently e-mailed Jenna Jameson and she told us she was working a business deal with Mike Tyson. What would you think about doing a scene with Iron Mike?
No thanks. He’s not my type. (well, from what I know about him anyway). I actually prefer your average guy to your body-builder or celebrity. Give me a cute computer geek any day :)

We also do a lot of interviews with professional wrestlers. Have you ever been a wrestling fan?
No. professional wrestling is too much of a soap opera for me :)

What has been your favorite video to film?
Our videos aren’t really “professional” … so its not really like filming. we’re out having a good time, and we just happen to have a video camera running. There are very few of our scenes that are scripted at all… and I have to say that the ones that are scripted are my least favorite. Lucky for me that we’re so spontaneous!!

What has been your favorite party?
Again, its very hard to pick just one!! We did a party in New Orleans a few years ago at one of my favorite bars and had about 150 people there, including 30 or so other webgirls. That was a blast…

Who have been your favorite people to work with?
I don’t really work with professional pOrn stars. Probably as close as I could get would be a couple scenes I did with Rodney Moore. I really dig him because he shoots gonzo and is a lot of fun. I’ve shot a whole lot with cathy from cathyscraving.com… not only is she a lot of fun to work with, but she’s also one of my favorite people on the planet.

Is there anyone you don’t like working with?
The great thing about what I do is that I don’t shoot with anyone I don’t like :) I only do what i want to do and when i want to do it. Because I’m not shooting, I’m having fun. If i meet up with someone with the intention of shooting with him/her, and then don’t like them, then I don’t shoot.

I’ve read a lot of reviews and fan blogs, and it seems that you have a huge following. Is there anything you would like to say to your fans?
Come on out and party sometime!!

Do some people get jealous of your success? What do your neighbors think of your career?
My neighbors gave me a little bit of crap after our last big party because too many people were parked in our cul-de-sac, but other than that we haven’t had any problems here in Havasu. Pretty much everyone in town knows who we are and what we do. But no one really cares, which is one of the reasons we’ve lived here for the last five years. we still have a “wild west” attitude where people tend to stay out of other people’s business.

What do you think of Afro-Squad.com?
Oh, I LOVE it :)

Have you checked out our Pimp of the Year pictures?
Who do you think should be Afro-Squad’s 2007 Pimp of the Year?
Snoop for sure! I need to get my dog to grow his hair like that :)

Can you tell us about the “win a date” with Oasis contest?
Its a chance for regular guys out there, my fans (haha), to shoot with me if they’re interested. they need to read my rules and fill out my stud application (at http://cum2oasis.com/stud.htm), and then if I like what they have to say, and their pic, and they can come to where I’m at, they get the chance to come out and have dinner, and most likely even more!

So where do you see yourself in 10 years? Will you be entertaining male fans in front of the screen when you hit 30?
Oh, I’ve already hit 30. working on the big 3-5 now! who knows what I’ll be doing in 10 years. If we’re still having fun with the site, then we’ll still be doing the site. What we do is all about having a good time.

We get to see a lot of the “dirty” Oasis, but can you tell us a little bit about your sweeter side? Do you cry at sad movies, volunteer, or give money to charity?
We did a benefit here in town to raise money for all the pets displaced by hurricane Katrina. We raised $1,500 for the best friends animal society and their rescue efforts. not a whole lot of money, but it was our first time doing something like that and we’ve already committed to make it an annual event to raise money for animal shelters and rescue programs…

Are you a different person when you back home with the family, or are you always the same person we see on the DVDs?
I’ll tell you a story. About six years ago I was driving my sister home from Christmas dinner at my grandmother’s. i don’t know exactly what we were talking about, but I told her about our lifestyle and the website. I expected her to be shocked … but all she said was “oh, I’m not surprised”. I don’t talk sex or parties or p0rn with my family, but my personality doesn’t change.

Before I let you go, do you have any questions for the guys at Afro-Squad?
How do I get to be a Afro-Squad??? :)

A Afro-Squad just represents the stuff that guys love. Since guys already love you, consider yourself an honorary Afro-Squad. Well thanks for the interview. I wish you the best of luck in life.

Bomb Twins Interview (Models)

by admin ·

The Bomb Twinz, Dezire and Woody
Bomb Twinz

www.BombTwinz.com

So, how are you doing today? I am stressing today. Booking last minute models for events and I am on the phone non-stop talking to different contacts… but I ALWAYS have time for Afro-Squad.com!

Can you introduce yourself? Hi, my name is DEZ!RE and if you f’ with me, I will f’ with you ten times harder! I have an identical twin sister—Woody, and together, we are known as the BOMBTWINZ.

I can only imagine how cool it would be for you to f’ me ten times harder, but that isn’t important right now. What do you and your sister do for a living?
I am a full-time student double majoring in Psychology and Behavioral Science. I am a behavioral specialist. I work with adult clients who have psychological disorders, the Project Manager for a marketing company, a spokes model, a supporting actress in a drama series, the President of the National Honor Society in Psychology, and I model on the side when I have time.

My twin sister Woody is a nursing major who just got kicked out of the accelerated [3.9+ gpa] nursing program because of her LOOKS [F' SJSU] and she works at a photo lab and hooks everyone up with the dopest pictures! =)

What has been your biggest modeling gigs? Modeling for an upscale hair salon, a couple band posters/fliers, Ralph Lauren Polo, and a runway show for Tommy Lees club.

Do you have any projects coming up? Hosting a huge party in the Bay Area, Photoshoots in Hawai’i, some runway shows stretching from the bay area all the way down to San Diego, HIN in August, another runway show in New York City, and possibly hosting a party in Miami.

Can you tell us about your MySpace page? Who runs it? I manage my own MySpace page because I stay true and loyal to all of the friends I have made on there. I changed my display name to BOMBTWINZ so I would not be searchable by the companies I work for [it would completely affect my career as a psychologist]. I try and make as many videos as possible to keep my page entertaining. So far, it is working! MySpace.com/bombtwinz or check out my youtube.com page.

Do you work for a modeling agency? If so, where do you work? Nope, I would rather keep all the money I earn for myself! ha ha. My sister and I are very dependent and can manage things on our own–for now, however, if things get too hectic and we start booking with larger companies, an agency could come in handy.

What will and what won’t you do in modeling? We will try anything except implied or nude! Some things should be kept for the imagination ;)

What are your hobbies? Pouring salt onto snails and then watching them bubble, squeezing citris onto cuts, picking dried nasal mucus and rolling them into balls, casually flicking them onto annoying people, running with scissors in my hands to pretend I am Edward Scissor hands, sniffing gasoline at gas stations, cutting people off and carving snow into their faces while snowboarding, traveling to tropical places, harassing boys, and checking out Afro-Squad.com! We love the AfroSquad. It is better than gay p0rn.

What are your guilty pleasures? Oh god. Downloading gay p0rn [men] no, seriously, m@sturbating at least twice a day, binging on junk food once or twice—maybe even thrice a week and um, some other pleasures should really be kept secret!

What are your favorite movies? American Pie, Dangerous Minds, The Sixth Sense, Dumb and Dumber, Monsters Inc., Set It Off, Finding Nemo, Bad Boys II, American History X, Misery, Miss Congeniality, GOONIES, Drop Dead Fred

Do you do any charity work? If not, what was the last nice thing you did for somebody? My family does a lot of charity work as a whole. We donate money to villages in Vietnam or hold community buffets for the poor. I am planning to travel to Vietnam soon to visit a village where all the lepers are sent. Here, I have contributed over 100 community service hours to a battered women’s shelter’s after school program for the kids, and I always give money to homeless people [who do not ask for it].

What do you think are your hottest pictures? The candid shot of me picking a fat wedgie for the Ralph Lauren Polo bathing suit photoshoot.

What do you normally eat for breakfast? A bowl of Honey Bunches of Oats, a couple strawberries or a banana, and a package of YOGOs! mmmmmm.

Do you work out? How often? How? I go to the gym ONCE a week and use the bike for 20 min because I am obligated to. Other than that, I do crunches once a day and if dancing in front of the mirror naked before I shower counts as a workout [since I keep my stomach flexed] that would also be one of my methods of keeping in shape.

What do you think of Afro-Squad.com? It is the $HIT! That is why I was excited to hear that Afro-Squad.com wanted to do an interview with me! Are you guys as hung as everyone says?

What is the biggest misunderstanding about you? The biggest misunderstanding would definitely have to be the assumption that I party a lot based on my pictures. Connecting with my friends in a social environment does not necessarily mean that I am partying! After all, I AM allergic to alcohol and smoke!

Is there anything else you want to talk about? My obsession with g@y porn. Can you tell me why a straight girl like myself has such a guilty pleasure? Hello? Um, I guess the interview is over.

Thanks for your time.

Mother Statue – Versailles Gardens – Paradise Island – Bahamas

by admin ·

Within the Versailles Gardens on Paradise Island in the Bahamas near Atlantis, there are many very intersting sights.  My favorite may have been this bronze statue titled “Mother and Child.”   Here are some picutures.

This sculpure was completed by William Reid Dick in 1920, who we will feature in the near future.

Please see the links at the bottom of the page to see more Bahamas photos.

Disney’s Hollywood Studios Photos

by admin ·

For Christmas 2009 I decided to make a quick trip to Disney’s Hollywood Studios.  In particular, Disney is a great place to take pictures.  It is also a great place to just kick back and people watch.

I assume that I am just too old to enjoy Disney, because the rides are just “ok” to me.  Probably if I had kids, they would be a bit more fun.

The topiaries are always amazing.  I am a bit of a grinch about Christmas though.  I just don’t get much enjoyment from seeing a 70 year old tree cut down so we can decorate it for a theme part.  I would rather see that tree in nature, without killing it for a month’s worth of decorations.

Regardless, there is something magical about watching kids enjoy Disney World.

Samford Cemetery Pictures – Riverview, Florida – Part One

by admin ·

While touring through Gibsonton, Florida, I learned that Al and Jeanne Tomaini were buried in a little “orphaned” cemetery off of Palm Cover Road.  So I jumped in my car and decided to check the place out.  (For those of you who don’t know, Al and Jeanne were famous carnival workers who ran the Giant Cafe in Gibsonton.  Al was 8’4″ tall and Jeanne was 2’6″)

At first I was taken aback by the appearance of the cemetery.  But then I realized that most of the graves were probably created by the poor, transients, carnival workers, and immigrants.  Of course, there are also many locals laid to rest in the cemetery.  Grave stones dated to the 1880, but most people will tell you that the cemetery started in the mid 1800s.  There were a large percentage of graves.  Those graves were covered in the toys of the children.

This cemetery was unlike any other that I have ever visited.  It was in ill repair, it had many hand made grave stones, and it was just a bit “carney” in appearance.  There was a “biker’s only” section, war veterans and carney legends, and scattered items of personal memorabilia.

Here are the first 21 pictures from my journey through the cemetery:

Picture 1)  A sign reminding people not to dig up the graves.  It is sad that such a sign is needed.
2)  Look how high the sign was.  It had to be 30 feet in the air.  Odd.
3)  Rita Raulerson had a tin sign.  There were a LOT of these.  I had never seen them in cemeteries.
4)  Sheppard Herring’s grave was made of four by fours.
5)  Jimmy Ray Jr.  died when he was 22 years old.  I like the picture though.  Although dated, it adds a personal touch.
6)  Jimmy Lee Peeples Jr. died young too.  Another interesting picture of him on the stone.
7)  Joseph Bathe died when he was 30.  Maybe a fisher.  That makes sense, as there are a lot of fishers in the area.
8)  Phyllis Soper’s grave was interesting as it was surrounded by garden gnomes.
9)  Debra Ann Hoover also died young, but her stone was one of the nicer ones there.
10)  Ruben Weaver was born in the 1800s.  He had one of the older stones.
11)  This angel was being returned to nature.
12)  I just thought the contrast of the mildew and the angel was interesting.
13)  This was another 1800s stone that was overtaken by the elements.
14)  Four year old Ivory Nicole McFarland’s hand made gravestone broke my heart.
15)  This live oak tree is amazing.
16)  I hope this tree is around for another hundred years.
17)  Dora Ann Tedder didn’t even live a year.  I kind of wanted to clean up her stone, but I also didn’t want to disturb her grave.
18)  A close up of Mr. Tedder’s angel.
19)  The center oak tree again.
20)  Jesse Lee Schneider lived less than a year.  His grave was covered in toy cars.  I wish I knew the story behind these cars.  Gravedigger, among other monster trucks, sit waiting for him.
21) Gonzalo Cazarez was another child grave.

Check back for future posts, as there are plenty of other interesting pictures coming.

Lebowski Barber Shop – Tampa, Florida – Photos

by admin ·

In what has to be one of the most original gimmicks for barber shops, the Lebowski Barber Shop opened in Tampa, Florida about a year or two ago.  The shop followed a theme of using terms from the movie “The Big Lebowski,” and stylists offered beers to the patrons.

I had the opportunity to meet the owner right before the shop opened.  He was a creepy pimp-like character who wore a robe and surrounded himself by scantily clad women.  The shop itself had busty hair dressers in latex outfits, and most people didn’t know what to make of it.

As a huge Big Lebowski fan, I really wanted to go there as a patron.  Sadly, the place went out of business not long after opening.  I took these pictures of the building to help the Lebowski dream live on.  I just don’t quite know what that dream was.  Whatever the dream was, I am sure “the dude bides.”
