Jocelyn and Crystal Potter About their Dad

by admin ·
The following is archived from TwinVirgos.com
On September 8th, 1978 a young man by the name of Travis Potter was to be a lucky winner. On that fortunate day while drinking a bottle of Dr. Pepper, he looked under the cap and what he saw was “Congratulations you’ve won a pair of twin speakers”. He excitedly went to the Dr. Pepper bottling company in San Antonio, Texas to redeem his prize. When he went home and opened the box he was perplexed as to what was inside. Instead of having won a pair of twin speakers he had instead won a pair of twin sisters! This is where the adventure would begin….
Let us first start out by saying that we owe Everything to our Dad. He raised us, as hard as it must’ve been, to appreciate and respect everyone and everything. To find the humor in life as well as have a sense of humor. To always think outside the box and not to follow the crowd. Most importantly, because of him we have a male’s perspective but a woman’s intuitions on everything that goes on in our life. What we mean is, we do not play head games, we don’t meddle in anyone’s business but our own, we don’t like dramatic situations nor do we cause drama, and we must always be working or being productive. Thank you Dad, we love you so very much!
Now where were we…oh yes, here we our..Dad was a programmer for NCR up until about 1990. He was transferred every year to either a new city or state so every year we were some place new. We realize that this was a building block to our friendly mannerism towards people and our ability to talk your ear off! As well as being able to adapt quickly to new environments. We didn’t grow up surrounded by fashion magazines, Harlequin romance novels, weepy chick flicks, or home made meals. Nope we’re proud to say we grew up surrounded by all the latest gizmos and gadgets, computers and gaming consoles, ice cream breakfasts and microwavable popcorn dinners! Our Daddy could whip up a mean batch of home-made beef jerky like nobody’s business! Oops we wandered away from the story..
We had cable television in the early 80′s, which we didn’t know at the time, was a sort of luxury item. We watched shows like SCTV, You Can’t Do That On Television, Fernwood/America 2nite, and Soap! Notice a reoccurring theme there? That’s right, COMEDY!! We literally grew up on sketch comedy! He even brought back a copy of Fawlty Towers from another overseas trip in the late 80′s, but it wasn’t until we were about 13 when he would open our mind to the world of British comedy. Guess, he figured we were ready at that point. So we’ve been hooked to Monty Python, Black Adder, Whose Line Is It Anyways?, Fawlty Towers, and Absolutely Fabulous ever since. We’re not implying in any way that we were rich, we were middle class like most of the population. As a matter of fact there were times when we were less than that, but the one thing Dad ALWAYS made sure we had was a roof over our shoulders, food in our stomach, clothes to keep us warm, and that we were healthy.
We took many road trips so we remember as clear as day, our Dad sitting in the living room surrounded by all his LP’s recording them to cassettes which he would label Road Tunes in his Klingon handwriting he had created.(Yup, our Dad is a Trekkie and proud of it.) He would stay up all night doing this, that way we would have music to listen to in the car. We grew up listening the music of Abba, Neil Diamond, Carly Simon, Laura Branigan, Sergio Mendez and even Kylie Minogue (In 1990 Dad bought a copy of her first album while in Europe and brought it back with him. Waaaaaaay before she hit it off in America) When we were babies he would put on the Abba song Like An Angel Passing Through My Room as our lullaby to help us sleep..Now you know why it is we love, listen to and are extremely knowledgeable in all genres of music!
Crystal
We lived in Texas, Ohio, Florida, and (when we were 10 years old)almost went with our Dad to Turkey but he decided, after we had our passports and everything, that it was not a country he wanted his daughters to live in. So we got to live at the family Ranch with Grandma and Grandaddy who helped raise us too! Stillwell Ranch is deep in southwest Texas 6 miles near the entrance to Big Bend National Park.
Favorite Dad Moments:

When we were living in Houston Dad was stationed in Diego Garcia and he would come home to visit every time possible. During one visit we were all in the living room and he said, Look girls I’m Spider Man! He then proceeded to climb the wall only making it as far as one foot when the wall gave out and in went his leg!

When we were a bit older, 12 or 13 years old, we remember Dad cooking a huge pot of beans on the stove in this little apartment. Because the beans would have to soak and boil for awhile we decided we would go out for pizza at a Chuck E. Cheese (or was it still Showbiz Pizza?). We were gone for a few hours or so only to return to smoke coming out of our front door and the fire alarm going off like mad! When we got in, the entire apartment was filled with gray smoke and an unbearable odor. Turns out Dad put the stove on too high and the beans had literally turned to charcoal! The smell of burnt beans lingered in the apartment for weeks! He can’t cook but we love him no matter what!

TwinVirgos.com Archived Interview with the Potter Twins (Jocelyn and Crystal)

by admin ·

These Questions were asked in 2005 by Brian X and archived here for good measure.

What type of men are you attracted to?

If you can make us laugh, you’ve got a 98% chance of catching our attention. We know this sounds like a cliché, but it’s personality first, then looks.

What is the significance of the tattoos on your wrists?

Crystal: I’ve got a total of 3 tattoos. Each tattoo represents a band or artist that has had a huge impact throughout my life.

Ankle on my right foot: My very first tattoo which I had done at the age of 16 (also, often referred to as my “jailhouse” tattoo because it was done with Indian ink and a sewing needle) is of the letter “Q”. This represents the band “QUEEN”. Mere words can not express the sheer impact this band has had in my life since I first got into their music at the age of 13.

Wrist on my right hand: This is the symbol that Robert Plant used to represent himself on the Led Zeppelin 4 album. Became a Led Zeppelin fan back in 1999 whilst going through a transition in my life.

Wrist on my left hand: Is a very obscure symbol that represents the band “Pink Floyd”. To get a bit more in depth with this band, it represents ALL of Pink Floyds era’s. Starting with Syd Barrett and ending just when Roger Roger’s left. (Sorry David Gilmour fans. I can’t respect him as much as I did when Pink Floyd, at least, included Roger Rogers. Syd Barrett is a whole other story……..) =)

Jocelyn: I’ve got one tattoo on my right wrist, which is the logo for Paul McCartney & Wings. I haven’t decided what to put on my other wrist. I’ve got a tattoo on my right thigh, which I too had done when I was 16 and I also refer to it as my ‘jailhouse’ tattoo because it is was done the same way Crystal’s was and it’s not anywhere near finished. It’s supposed to be the letter “Q” with a jesters hat on top (I used to doodle this in class in 8th grade and thought it’d make a great tattoo. The Q symbolizes the group “QUEEN” and the jester hat on top is from the Queen video “I’m Going Slightly Mad” where John Deacon is wearing a jesters hat) but it certainly doesn’t look like what it’s supposed to be.

Are you both always together?

For the time being, yes….but someday we’ll get “THE DIVORCE”. And we say that with love

Do you have any fears?

We’re DEATHLY afraid of pool drains!! That’s one reason we won’t go scuba diving…..

Uh-huh…Ok, what is your favorite movie?

Crystal: For a non-comedy, it’s Cemetery Man. As for comedy, I haven’t decided…it’s a close tie with Ghostbusters II, Armed and Dangerous, Clue, Kids In The Hall: Brain Candy, and that’s all I can think of at the moment….

Jocelyn: My absolute all time favorite movie, in all genres except comedy, is Anne of the Thousand Days. As for comedy, it’s the brilliantly funny, Elephant Parts.
