We’re always amused when fake cops try to intimidate real cops. But it’s a bit puzzling when the perpetrator has a high enough profile that it’s tough to slip away without publicity.
James “Bubba” Stewart Jr., a motorcross driver described by OrlandoSentinel.com as a “motorcross superstar,” is accused of flashing red and blue lights at a vehicle full of legitimate off-duty officers, who identified themselves, tried to stop him and chased him to an airport where they arrested him. Stewart immediately drew suspicion because his souped-up truck was so unlike what local cops said they use for covert activity.
Of course, real cops can get crosswise with each other, too. A former Marco Island cop is suing the city and its police chief, saying the chief retaliated against him when he cautioned the chief for showing up at a murder scene apparently tipsy, naplesnews.com reports.
