I hope it had nothing to do with my prediction, but the Refinery (5137 N. Florida Ave. Tampa; 813-237-2000) did in fact get a cease-and-desist with regards to its pork sandwich and the fact that it used the name of the one at McDonald’s. So Greg and Michelle Baker immediately complied and changed the name of their sandwich to cease-and-desist sliders. Which, as far as I’m concerned, is a much better name anyway, and has no trademark infringement issues.
The order came just in time for the sandwich to cycle off the menu anyway. So if you want to try it, tonight’s the night. Greg changes the menu on Thursdays, and this one was already working on an extra week because of the holidays.
And I appreciated that extra week because it gave me a chance to get in and try it. I’m a fan. The pork patty is a torchon of pig head meat. I wasn’t sure about it at first, because the slice is fairly thin, but products from that part of the animal have a fair percentage of fat, so the patty was extremely rich. A thin slice is a good call. The onions and house made pickle on top cut the fat perfectly. I would have liked a stronger hit of the coffee BBQ, but that’s hardly a complaint. It was good as it was. An order of three are $8.
